esanjeevani is a life-saving app: pm

In his monthly radio broadcast on Sunday, Mann Ki Baat, PM Narendra Modi termed the government’s eSanjeevani app, a life-saving app. He said that the tele-consultation app has been used by more than 10 crore people till date, quite a lot of them living in hilly areas. The PM called it the power of India’s digital revolution.

Congratulating all the doctors and people who have used the app, the PM said “During the Covid-19 pandemic, the e-Sanjeevani app proved to be a great boon for the people.”

E-Sanjeevani is a telemedicine initiative launched by the Government of India in 2020 to provide healthcare services remotely using digital technology. It is an online platform that enables patients to consult with doctors and medical practitioners via video conferencing.

E-Sanjeevani app has two verticals. The first is eSanjeevani AB-HWC (Ayushman Bharat –Health and Wellness centre) provides assisted tele-consultations and ensures that the beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat Scheme can avail the benefits of the scheme.

The other is eSanjeevani OPD which caters to people in both urban and rural areas. These consultations are also available on smartphones, tablets, laptops and patients can consult a doctor from the comfort of their homes. The app is available in both web and mobile versions and can be accessed by patients 24/7.

To use the eSanjeevani app, patients need to register themselves by providing their basic details such as name, age, gender, and contact information. Once registered, patients can choose to consult with a doctor from the list of available healthcare providers. The consultation is conducted in real-time through a secure video conferencing platform, where patients can discuss their health concerns and receive medical advice.

It works as a hub and spoke model—where a tertiary center is a hub, and a  primary health center a spoke. So, in need the network's spoke would be a paramedic or generalist at a health and wellness centre, and at the hub would be a specialist doctor at the tertiary healthcare centre.

The prescriptions are also generated electronically and are used to get medications.
