india begins its covid vaccination drive across the country

India begins vaccinating its healthcare workers in the first phase of its Covid-19 vaccination rollout. Three crore healthcare and frontline workers will be inoculated in what is the world’s largest immunisation drive.

Two indigenous vaccines—Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Serum Institute of India’s Covishield, will be administered to priority groups. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the inoculation drive by addressing 3,006 vaccination sites across the country via video-conferencing.

Around 100 people will get vaccine shot at each of the 3,006 vaccination sites in the country today

Coronavirus has affected over one crore people in India so far, and caused death in close to 1.5 lakh people.
