More than two lakhs Anganwadi workers and helpers have been on strike in Maharashtra since Monday. They demand an increase in the honorarium they are being paid.
The Maharashtra State Anganwadi Workers Action Committee has asked for Rs 15000 per month honorarium for the workers and Rs 10,000 for the helpers.
Currently, the workers are given Rs 8300- 8500 and helpers Rs 4300-4500 per month as honorarium. They also demand the government to recruit and recognise them as a state employee and provide them with all the other benefits such as gratuity.
